Alright. So tonight I finally found time to sit down and record what's happening in my life for memory's sake. What really defines me now is my passion for mountaineering.
So, it all started when i decided to take the first step out to pursue my mountaineering dream when i first joined NUS. There was no a single soul at the booth during the career fair. But with a brochure I collected then, I went to meet my current batch mates for the first time at the welcome team. Things took off from then.
I remembered i was involved in volleyball IFG during first half of sem 1. And I think my first training is only during recess week? I chose to join Zhixiong and Shujun for EBC trek. The trek did not attract much people to join. At the last minute, Xin Rong's sister, Weilin, and a foreign exchange student Evi joined the trip. I had to withdraw from the trip just one week before the trip, but But the weather at EBC was really bad last winter and not all of them could make it to the base camp.
Fast forward now to Y1S2.
Two trips are attractive to me: EBC trek + Island Peak or India TMC. As of now, I have not confirmed either of them.
Let's go to trainings!
21/1:Running at Engineering Block. I reached late and ended up missing. I ran round and round the block trying to track them down. Well, i wasn't lucky but it was in fact quite fun.
25/1: BTH 7-8kg load, Stairs count: 4-4-4
27/1: Reached early and was reading the 'South Bound' book until Binxing arrived. A punishing training after that. We ran up the slope of Kent Ridge Hill like 6 times!
Weekend: CNY break when we stuffed ourselves with CNY goodies and regained some calories
4/2: Run stairs at Science Block. Plus PT suggested by everyone. This training was shack man!
6/2: I cant remember...
9/2: Level 1 climbing course with Climb Asia (Keith and Bin Xing + We bumped into Yip Heng!) And then MIR gathering at night.
I was especially touched by how the seniors are still are emotionally connected to the later batches of MIR and how their trips have developed. I was also inspired by our founders such as Lulin (who wrote both Southbound and Xixabangma) and Robert Goh (the main star featured in both books). Robert Goh, Kumaran and Linda all surmounted Mt Everest before, and their presence makes me feel that as long as you set your hear to it, nothing is impossible. Or better still, impossible is nothing.
They also talked about the death of the recent Rovers guy and fund-raising issues for the club.
11/2: 30 min intervals at NUS running track. It was tiring man. 200m sprint + 20 push up, 20 crunches, 20 burpees + 200m sprint + 10 pull ups + 10 dips for 5 continuous rounds. The 30 min felt like 3 hrs for me. I got to admit that it was tough. But this is only a small part of the challenge we will be facing in the mountain. So brace yourself and push harder.
To be honest, I really like burpees and push ups now, they help me train my thighs and arms which are weaker than my other parts of the body. Plus Make Love Real bouquet session afterwards!
So the crucial thing is: which trip should i go for?
